Clear Business is a well-established independent water retailer serving thousands of business customers across England and Scotland.
Clear Business provides both water and wastewater services, alongside being a business energy supplier and a business broadband provider, giving customers the option to manage multiple services under one account.
Clear Business is not a default regional water retailer but operates nationally within the open water market. This means any business in England or Scotland can choose Clear Business as their preferred supplier if they’re looking for more competitive pricing or consolidated utility management.
Since the business water market opened, many companies have taken the opportunity to move away from their default water retailer to find better value. Your business could reduce costs by switching business water supplier.
Here we outline the different ways to get in touch with the Clear Business customer service teams:
You can call Clear Business on 0333 014 3131. They are available 9 am – 5 pm, Monday – Friday.
Clear Business customers can easily manage their accounts through the ‘Customer Zone‘. This simple online platform lets you submit water meter readings, view and pay bills, and update your account details, all in one place.
You can chat with Clear Business via their Live Chat or WhatsApp buttons in the bottom right of any page, or by visiting the contact us page.
Clear Business does not publish its fixed contract business water rates available to new customers online.
If your business is supplied by Clear Business in England, but you are out of contract, you’ll pay the regional default business water rates, as determined annually by Ofwat.
If your business is a Scottish Clear Business customer but you are out of contract, you’ll be charged the following rates:
For meters up to and including 20 mm:
For meters up to and including 20 mm:
Clear Business provides a range of tariffs for business customers across England and Scotland.
These options are designed to give flexibility depending on your contract status and water usage.
A fixed contract with Clear Business sets the retail service charge for an agreed period, giving you greater control over costs and budgeting. The wholesale element of your business water bill, which is determined by regional wholesalers, may change each April in line with regulator updates.
Clear Business offers multi-utility contracts that can combine water, energy, broadband, and insurance under one provider. This can make account management simpler and may offer improved overall value compared with managing separate suppliers.
If Clear Business supplies you and you haven’t agreed to a new contract, your account will remain on the default business water tariff. Default prices are typically higher than those available through a fixed contract, but customers can move to a new agreement at any time.
Clear Business fixed contracts, as outlined in the Clear Business Terms and Conditions, set out clear terms around payments, credit checks, renewals, and what happens at the end of your agreement.
Understanding these key features can help businesses manage their account smoothly and avoid unexpected charges.
Verastar Limited, the billing agent for Clear Business, collects all payments. Unless otherwise agreed, payments must be made by Direct Debit, typically 14 days after the invoice date. If a Direct Debit is not set up, cancelled, or fails, Clear Business may charge additional fees or remove any tariff discounts. Paper billing also incurs a small administrative charge.
Before supply begins, Clear Business may run a credit check to assess eligibility. Depending on the results, a security deposit, guarantee, or bond may be required before the service can start. If payments are missed or credit conditions change, the company may request an additional deposit or switch billing to advance payments.
Fixed contracts continue for an agreed term. At least 30 days before the end of the agreement, Clear Business will send a renewal notice outlining available options. If no new contract is signed, the account automatically moves onto a “Deemed” or Default Tariff until a new deal is agreed or the customer switches supplier.
Businesses can end their Clear Business contract by giving at least 20 working days’ notice. If the contract ends before the agreed term, a termination charge will apply. The charge is based on the difference between the amount already paid under the fixed contract and what would have been charged under the default tariff for the same period. An additional administration fee of £249 applies for each remaining year or part-year of the agreement.
Invoices are usually sent monthly by email or post. Clear Business may bill in advance or in arrears, depending on your tariff. Adjustments can be made if meter readings are updated or occupancy details change. Any billing disputes must be paid in full first, with any agreed credits applied later.
Water usage is charged based on actual meter readings where possible. If readings aren’t available, usage is estimated using market data. Wastewater is assumed to be 95% of the measured water supplied, unless proven otherwise to the satisfaction of the local water company.
Clear Business can update tariffs or pricing schedules annually, typically on 1 April, in line with regulator guidance or changes to wholesale costs. Any updates are published online and notified to customers in writing or on invoices.
