Source for Business, part of the Pennon Group, is a licensed water retailer serving businesses across England and Scotland. They are the default water supplier for non-household customers in the South West Water, Bournemouth Water, Cambridge Water and South Staffs Water regions.
If your business is based in one of these areas and hasn’t switched water suppliers, Source for Business is likely to manage your account. In other parts of England, you would only be with Source for Business if you’ve actively chosen them.
While sticking with the default supplier is convenient, it’s not always the most cost-effective option. Changing your business water supplier could unlock lower prices, tailored tariffs, and better service.

Source for Business provides a range of tariff options tailored to different types of businesses, from small independent retailers to large multi-site organisations.
If your business hasn’t chosen a specific tariff, you will be placed on a default business water tariff. This ensures continuity of service but is usually more expensive than securing a fixed deal. Moving away from default pricing could help your business lower ongoing water bills.
With a fixed contract, Source for Business locks in a set retail fee for the term of the agreement. This gives greater certainty over costs and is typically more competitive than default rates. Once the contract ends, you can review your options and switch to a new tariff that fits your business needs.
Source for Business fixed contracts come with clear terms and conditions that help businesses manage payments, reduce risk, and keep control of their water services.
Source for Business typically requires payment by Direct Debit. This ensures bills are collected on time and reduces the risk of missed payments. If a Direct Debit is cancelled or fails, the customer must pay by another approved method, and any discounts may be withdrawn if payment terms aren’t met.
Bills are usually issued in arrears, so you pay after using the service. This avoids paying in advance and can support cash flow management. Invoices are sent either by email or post, depending on your chosen preference.
When a fixed contract ends, Source for Business may offer a renewal or, if no new deal is agreed, place the account on default rates. These are generally higher than fixed tariffs, so it’s important to review your options before the contract expires.
A credit check may be carried out before or during your contract. If your business has limited credit history or late payment records, Source for Business may request a security deposit. This deposit is refundable when the account is fully settled and can be used against unpaid charges if necessary.
Failure to pay, or preventing access to your water meter, may lead to disconnection of services. Before this happens, Source for Business will send a disconnection warning notice. Services can be reconnected once the issue is resolved and any reconnection fees are paid.
You can normally switch supplier at the end of your contract. However, if invoices are more than 90 days overdue, Source for Business may raise an objection to the switch until the balance is cleared. All outstanding charges must be paid before a transfer can be completed.
