Appliance cost calculator

Calculator notes:

Simple: This is a user-friendly calculator designed for estimations.

Peak Power: Reality is more nuanced than labels. Appliances will not be operating at peak power (Wattage on the label) all the time during operation. Some appliances have ‘ON’ and ‘Standby’ modes, and consume a variable amount of electricity during that time.

Does not consider ageing: An appliance’s electricity consumption may increase with age because of wear and tear, rust and other effects of repeated usage. This may also come from a loss in performance over time, requiring the appliance to operate for longer to reach an equivalent outcome.

Other factors: Other factors, such as temperature and voltage fluctuations, may affect performance and electricity consumption.

Other costs: The calculator only considers the unit rate of electricity. In reality, all home and business energy bills also include a standing charge (in pence per day) and VAT over the total (5% for homes; variable for businesses).
